Relationship between entities of the same collection

I want to create a many-to-many relationship between entities of the same collection like JIRA does.

EG: Record1 of CollectionA has a (M:M) Relation with Record2 of CollectionA. From the context of Record1 the relation is marked as “Addresses”, from the context of Record2 the relation is marked as “Is Addressed By”.

Any ideas how to achieve this?

I am asking how to create many-to-many self-referential relationship with asymmetric relation types. I cannot find in the documents how to do so

I don’t understand your question. Associations can only exist between sets, not between record 1 and record 2. The documentation has already explained the steps. What obstacles are you facing in creating a self-association?

I believe @bsvveen would like to have an extra column in the through collection to specify the “type” of the relationship.

@bsvveen, I also thought of that trying to replicate JIRA’s cross-references between tickets, and it looks like it is not possible to make it directly. But I have found two workarounds (both not ideal):

  1. You can make a single separate collection for relations that would have three data columns: record1_id, record2_id and a relations_type. Then you can manually fill that collection using a dialog, workflow, etc. to link the records. After that you can show the linked records either in a separate block pointing to this relations collection and with data scope set to record1_id or record2_id pointing to the record you need. Or, make separate relations between main collection and record1, and main collection and record2 and try to use standard GUI features…

  2. You can have one through collection per each type of relationship between records. And then to have multiple M:M relationship between records using these collections. In this case you can use standard NocoBase related records functionality, but it won’t be possible to add new types of relationships from the user side (as you need to create more tables and link them).

I am also interested to know if there’s an easier way maybe…
